St. Petersburg (3) - Svirstroy - Kizhi - Goritsy - Uglich - Moscow (3) |
||
| Day 01 |
ST. PETERSBURG
Welcome to Russia! After clearing Immigration and Customs, passengers who have prearranged transfers will be met by our local representatives and transferred to the harbor for embarkation. It is also easy to hire a cab. Drivers speak English and accept payment in both local and foreign currency. In both Moscow and St. Petersburg a drive from the airport to the river port takes approximately 30 minutes. A welcome cocktail and information meeting will either precede or follow your first dinner on board. No tours are scheduled for today. (D) |
|
| Day 02 |
ST. PETERSBURG:
St. Petersburg is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. President of Russia, Vladimir Putin is so proud of his birthplace that he has made it a tradition bringing his honored foreign guests to St. Petersburg for an informal visit. In the spirit of this wonderful custom our city tour will take you to all the “chosen” destinations: the Palace Square, St. Isaac’s Cathedral, Peter and Paul Fortress, the Neva river, and many other lovely and impeccably elegant spots that you have seen so many times on Discovery Channel … After the tour, many passengers choose to stay downtown and enjoy museums, restaurants, shopping, and small boat trips on their own. |
|
| Day 03 |
ST. PETERSBURG
If there is one thing you must do in St. Petersburg it is to pay a visit to the Hermitage museum. The galleries are located in the complex of the Winter Palace of the Romanov Dynasty. You will enjoy the world famous collections while marveling at incredibly luxurious interiors of the Imperial Palace. It is impossible to see every piece of art in the museum: some sources claim that the total number of exhibits exceeds 2.5 million. Not to worry! Your guided comprehensive tour will provide ample time to enjoy all the highlights. Set sail. |
|
| Day 04 |
SVIRSTROY:
This is your first day of true cruising. Finally, you can take a deep breath, sit back, relax, and enjoy tranquil landscapes slowly changing in front of you as the River Voyager is sailing along Russian Waterways. And how different are those villages and churches from what you have seen in St. Petersburg! This is what makes Cruise Russia program so special: you have a chance to see the "other" side of Russia: not a tourist destination, but the country where people still live the way their great-grandparents used to live. Recreational stop at Svirstroy. |
|
| Day 05 |
KIZHI:
The tiny fairy-tale island of Kizhi is located near the northern end of the Lake Onega, the second largest lake in Europe and one of the world's purest. Kizhi is an open-air museum of Russian wooden architecture. The gem of its collection is the Transfiguration Church, 22 domes of which were constructed without the use of a single nail. Your guided walking tour of the open-air museum will include the cathedrals and other exhibits: traditional peasant houses, smaller churches, and wind mills. |
|
| Day 06 |
GORITSY:
Goritsy is a typical Russian village. Its name means "low hills". You can take a walk to down the bank to the old monastery that is undergoing reconstruction. Locals has adjusted to presence of foreign tourists, but their everyday life has hardly changed over the last century. You have a unique chance to pay a visit (if invited!) to a "babushka's" house and taste traditional Russian treats: "pirozhki" (mini-pies) accompanied by tea poured by your gracious hostess from a samovar. |
|
| Day 07 |
UGLICH:
Today your floating hotel docks in Uglich, one of the most beloved towns of old Russia. The name Uglich reflects the strategic location of this charming town where the Volga river makes a sharp turn ("ugol" means "angle" in Russian). Do not miss the "Codak Moment" while the ship is approaching the pier. During the walking tour of this historic town you will visit the Church of St. Dimitrius on the Blood (another bloody mystery!) and the Palace of Tsarevich Dimitri. Tonight is the Captain's Farewell Dinner party. Unfortunately this means that tonight is your last night of cruising before arriving in busy Moscow. |
|
| Day 8 |
MOSCOW:
Welcome to Russia's capital, ancient and ever young Moscow! After breakfast enjoy your PANORAMA TOUR that will introduce you to Moscow's major highlights, including Red Square, St. Basil's Cathedral, Moscow University, Olympic Stadium, and other sights. Today Moscow is one of the busiest cities in the world; one of the most expensive for business travelers as well... Save some time to explore this bustling city on your own. In the evening we highly recommend an optional performance of the acclaimed Moscow circus. |
|
| Day 9 |
MOSCOW:
One of the "must-see" in Russia: the Kremlin - an ancient fortress, the seat of the Russian government, and the heart and soul of Russia. Your guided tour will include Kremlin grounds, Tsar-Cannon, Tsar-Bell, and a visit inside one of the splendid Kremlin cathedrals. The most important Russian Orthodox services attended by president Putin and held there. A tour of the Armory Chamber that houses Russian Royal jewelry including Faberge's Easter Eggs will be offerred as an option. |
|
| Day 10 |
MOSCOW - HOME:
Disembark after breakfast. You will be expected to vacate your staterooms after 9 am but feel free to stay in public areas. If your flight departs late - just grab a cab or take Metro (approx. 10 min walk from the river port) downtown and enjoy your bonus day in Russian captal! Hotels can be arranged for those who want to spend more time in Moscow and St.Petersburg. Many passengers choose to extend their vacations in Europe: Baltic states, Prague, Finland, London are among the most popular pre and post cruise options. (B) |

KOSTROMA:
A charming mixture of old architecture and provincial neo-classicism creates a unique image of Kostroma. In this city with over 250,000 residents you still find wooden houses with intricate lacy carvings on the facades. In 1612, the town became the cradle of the Romanov dynasty. At the confluence of the Kostroma and Volga Rivers rise the white stone walls of the Ipatievsky Monastery. Mikhail Romanov and his family were in exile in the monastery when Mikhail was elected the first Romanov tsar. Our program includes a city tour, Ipatiev Monastery, and trading arcades. Optional: Romanov dynasty museum. |
|
| Day 06 |
YAROSLAVL:
Yaroslavl is considerably larger than Kostroma. It is an important industrial center and a beautiful ancient city. One of its historic sites is the Church of Ilia the Prophet that was built in 1647-1650 and embelished by frescoes by Nikitin and Slavin - the famous icon painters, who decorated at least one church in every Golden Ring town in the 17th century. |
| Day 09 |
SVIRSTROY:
The Svir river is a part of Volga-Baltic Waterway that includes a series of canals and rivers and links Moscow with the Baltic Sea. After Peter the Great wrestled the Gulf of Finland from Sweden, it was necessary to provide a secure way of river transportation with Russian inland so the first canals were built. Today "Volgo-Balt" is one of the busiest waterways in the world intercepted by many dams. Ships have to sail through 17 locks on their way from Moscow to St. Petersburg. Recreational stop at a small town of Svirstroy. |
|
| Day 10 |
VALAAM:
Nature is spectacularly beautiful there. Valaam is covered with dense forests, sparkling with flowers, picturesque inner lakes and springs. The lake area around is rich with fish; a rare species of Ladoga Ringed freshwater seal lives here. For many years the Vallam monastery was a religious and cultural center of Russia supported by Russian Tsars and the Russian Orthodox Church. The Monastery missionaries reached Far East, Aleutian Islands and Alaska. Captain's Gala dinner marks the last night of cruising. |
